Black toxic mold & others
Mold is produced by several varieties of fungus. These fungi are single-celled organisms that have been around since the beginning of time. Only in recent years have medical authorities realized what a health risk this kind of black mold that grows in wet basements can be. It is not only some of the black molds but others that can be a serious concern. According to the new department of health, in people who are allergic to it, mold can cause:
- Bleeding lungs
- Nose bleeds
- Memory loss
- Arthralgia (pain in the joints without swelling)
- Nasal congestion
- Irritation of the eyes
- Inflammation of the sinuses
- Irritation of the skin
- Runny nose
- Sore throat
- Inflammation to the ears
Smashing the basement & crawlspace mold triangle
Basement and crawlspace mold requires three things to grow and multiply:
- food source
Remove one or more of those sides of the triangle and you have no more mold.
You cannot get rid of the warmth because you need to have a heater in your home. However, we can make sure to get rid of the dampness as well as the “mold food” like the cellulose material and paper found on both sides of a drywall panel, cardboard, wood, paneling, paper or even the billions of dead fungus cells to be found in an infested area.
Not every wet basement or crawlspace is a mold factory but in this area of the country many are. Our trained inspectors can tell you whether you have a mold problem or not free of charge.
If it turns out that you do have a mold problem, you are going to have to deal with it eventually. For example, when it comes time to sell, the buyer may insist that you reduce the price to compensate for mold remediation expenses. On the other hand, the deal may fall through once the buyer’s home inspector discovers the mold problem.
