Short on Space? Have Poor Soil? A Raised Garden Bed Might Be Right For You
If you have tried gardening but haven’t had much success it could be because your soil is of pretty poor quality.
Making a raised bed can give you better, warmer soil and a longer growing season. Plus, if you have a small yard, you can put a raised bed on your porch, balcony, or even off of your windows.
In the Philadelphia, NJ and Delaware areas, most homes are build on really bad soil. They are heavy with clays, gravel, rock, etc. This gives you very poor drainage (this is also a leading cause of foundation problems and basement flooding).
By creating raised beds, you can put in top soil, garden soil, even potting soil. This way you won’t have to deal with clay-heavy soil that won’t drain and will kill your plants and trees. And, your new soil will be fresh and nutrient dense.
